Master’s Programs, Doctorate School


According to the Article 48 of the Law of Georgia on Higher Education, a bachelor or certified specialist of equal status may take a master’s program. The purpose of taking a master’s program shall be as follows:

  • Preparation for research work and pedagogic activities at a higher education institution;
  • Changing specialty;
  • Upgrading qualifications.

Master’s study program may not comprise only teaching, it shall necessarily include independent research by the student, which will result in considerable enhancement of student’s knowledge and serve as the basis for presenting a research work.

Coming out of the above, Sokhumi University offers students updated programs, carried out in the framework of Bologna Process. Presently there are 16 Master’s programs functioning in Sokhumi University with 300 students involved. Presently department is working on creating the flexible and up-to-dated curriculum for students.

 


Head of Masters’ and Doctorate Schools

Mariam Miresashvili

M. Miresashvili was born on 1958 in Sokhumi. Married, has two children. In 1981 graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Tbilisi State University. From 1978 to 1981, she studied in Tartu ( Estonia) State Uiversity (Student Exchange Program). In 1982-85 M. Miresashvili was an undergraduate student at Tbilisi State University. In 1986, she defended the Candidate Dissertation. At the same year, she started working as a lecturer at the Faculty of Philology at the Sokhumi Branch of Tbilisi State University.

In 2005-2006 M. Miresashvili worked as the head of the chair of History of Georgian Literature at the Sokhumi Branch of Tbilisi State University. From 2005 to 2006, she was the Head of Reforms and Development Department at the same University. From 2007 M. Miresashvili is a Full Professor of Philology. Since 2008, she was the Head of the Masters’ Programs Department and since 2009 up to present acts as the Head of the united department of Masters’ and Doctorate Programs.
