On
October 6, 2021, Mrs. Rina Kaliurand, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Estonia to Georgia, paid a visit to Sokhumi State University. The
esteemed guest met with the University's Rector, Professor Zurab Khonelidze,
and the Head of the International Relations and Intercultural Connections
Service, Professor Indira Dzagania.
During
the visit, the Rector provided an overview of Sokhumi University's history and
current endeavors, delving into the concept of university diplomacy, which
captivated the interest of the Ambassador. It was highlighted that the Rector's
forthcoming trilingual monograph (in Georgian, English, and Russian) would soon
be published, exploring the essence, goals, and tasks of university diplomacy.
Notably, renowned scholars and diplomats from various countries expressed a
keen interest in reviewing this research, unanimously recognizing the relevance
of "university diplomacy" and its global significance. The Rector
extended an invitation to the Estonian Ambassador to attend the book
presentation. Discussions during the meeting also touched upon the relations
between Georgia and Estonia.
At the end of the visit, Ambassador Rina
Kaliurand expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome at Sokhumi State
University.
