On June 1, 2019 for the first time in
history a roundtable between Sokhumi State University (Tbilisi) and Donetsk
National University (Vinnitsa) was held on the topic "Children Rights on
Occupied Territories", which implied problems not only of the children who
stay in the occupied territory but also of those who hold IDPs status because
of occupation.
This event, dedicated to the protection of children's
rights in the occupied territories, as well as to the protection of IDP
children's rights symbolically took place on June 1, 2019.
The event was organized by the
organizational committee of the International Federation of IDP Universities
and aimed to attract the attention of the international community to this more
sensitive topic.
After the occupation of Abkhazia and
Tskhinvali region Georgian government, as well as international organizations,
do not have the possibility to protect children rights on the occupied
territories.
Head of the Government of the Autonomous
Republic of Abkhazia Ruslan Abashidze and Maia Kurtsikidze, representative of
the United Nations Children's Fund in Georgia took part in the joint discussion
between the two universities.
