“Digital
Kartvelology: Kartvelian Languages in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” has
been selected for funding within the 2025 State Scientific Grant Competition
for Kartvelology Research. It is funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science
Foundation of Georgia, with support from the Ministry of Education, Science and
Youth, and will be carried out at Sokhumi State University.
The
project is led by Lela Mirtskhulava, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor at
Sokhumi State University. Lela Giglemiani, PhD in Philology (Arnold Chikobava
Institute of Linguistics, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University), serves
as project coordinator and researcher. The research team also includes Nino
Mashia, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor at Sokhumi State University.
The
project brings together a team of scholars and support staff working within an
innovative, transdisciplinary framework. It represents a meaningful
contribution to the growing field of digital humanities. The research focuses
on integrating traditional philological methodologies into contemporary digital
and algorithmic research environments, drawing on linguistics, corpus
linguistics, artificial intelligence, and digital humanities.
Once
completed, the project is expected to strengthen the international visibility
of Kartvelology within the academic community. It will facilitate the
presentation of Georgian linguistic and cultural heritage to a broader
international audience through innovative research formats, encourage the
development of new research directions, and support the creation of research
resources aligned with international academic standards.
