Sokhumi State University
is pleased to invite scholars, researchers, and practitioners to participate in
the Scientific Symposium Dedicated to the 1700th Anniversary of the
Proclamation of Christianity as the State Religion of Georgia, to be held
on
November 5–6, 2026.
Symposium
Objective
The symposium aims to promote and expand scholarly research
on the significance of Christianity in the social, political, cultural, and
spiritual development of Georgia throughout its history.
Although Christianity spread in Georgia as early as the first
century AD, it was officially proclaimed the state religion in the
fourth century, playing a fundamental role in shaping the country's
cultural, political, and spiritual identity. In particular, Christianity
contributed to:
ü The Consolidation of the Georgian People
and the Unification of the Georgian State, fostering
a stable national and cultural identity as well as a shared collective memory;
ü Georgia's Civilizational Orientation
and its Integration into the Broader European Cultural Sphere;
ü Cultural and Educational Development
Through the Advancement of the Unique Georgian Script, Literature, Architecture,
and the Arts, While the Church Became the Principal center of Education, Literacy,
and Scholarship;
ü The Preservation and Development of
Georgian Traditions, Customs, and Everyday Life.
Symposium
Topics
The symposium welcomes papers in, but not limited to, the
following fields:
ü
Humanities:
history, linguistics, literature, ethnology, cultural heritage, art history,
and historical-cultural relations;
ü
Educational Sciences:
pedagogy, teaching methodology, education policy, educational psychology, sociology
of education, multicultural education, inclusive education, and peace
education;
ü
Social Sciences:
law, international relations, political science, peace and conflict studies,
psychology, sociology, business administration, and economics;
ü
Natural and Agricultural Sciences,
as well as other disciplines whose topics are substantially related to
Christianity.
Symposium
Format
The symposium will be held in a hybrid format,
allowing both on-site and online participation.

Opening Ceremony and Parallel Thematic Sessions;

Day Two:
Parallel Thematic Sessions and Closing Ceremony.

Guidelines
for Abstract Submission
Abstracts should contain 250–500 words.
Each abstract should consist of no fewer than three and
no more than six paragraphs and must include the following components:

objective and significance (explaining the relevance of the
study);
ü Research
methodology (methods employed to address the
research problem);
ü Research
findings (presentation of the principal results and new knowledge
generated by the study).
