At Sokhumi
State University, within the Erasmus+ program, a Jean Monnet Module
“Georgian Peace Paradigm and European Union Peacebuilding” (EUPEACE ), a meeting of students with
veterans of the War in Abkhazia was held.
The project Manager, Professor Larisa Takalandze,
opened the event, introducing the goals and the importance of the project to
the students. She drew attention to the
importance of youth involvement in peace-building processes.
The participants were welcomed by
the Head of the Peace Educated Center of Sokhumi State University, Levan
Geradze, who spoke about the activities of the center, its educational
directions, and functions.
The main
part of the meeting was devoted to the experience of veterans of the war in
Abkhazia. Associate Professor of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at
Sokhumi State University, Nodar Darsania, shared his memories of the War with
students. The meeting was held in a discussion format, which allowed students
to learn from the participants about the challenges, the understanding of which
is important for the formation of a peaceful vision.
The event was summed up by David Zaqaraia,
Deputy Dean, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences.
He highlighted the value of such meetings for the academic environment and
future generations.
The meeting was attended by an
Abkhazia war veteran, a Head of Administration of SSU, Professor David Jalagonia.
According to the project Manager, in the framework of EUPEACE, meetings of a similar format are
planned in the future, which will contribute to raising awareness of young
people and strengthening the culture of peace.
The meeting was held on November 18
of this year, in the first building of Sokhumi State University, in the Jean
Monnet Auditorium.
