Giorgi Volski Visits Sokhumi State
University – Dialogue with Students on De-Occupation and
Peace Policy
Sokhumi
State University hosted the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia and
Chair of the Temporary Commission on the Restoration of Territorial Integrity
and De-Occupation, Giorgi Volski, together with Shorena Akhalaia, a
representative of the same commission.
The
delegation was met by the Rector of Sokhumi State University, Professor Tea Jugeli;
Deputy Rector, Professor Romeo Galdava; and the Head of Administration,
Professor Davit Jalaghonia.
The
event was held in an interactive format, organized as an open discussion with students.
Key issues addressed during the dialogue included:
The
significance of peace education;
The
involvement of young people in peaceful conflict resolution processes;
Strategies
for rebuilding trust;
The
role of public dialogue within de-occupation and reconciliation policies.
Particular
emphasis was placed on the initiative to establish a “Peace Club.” This
initiative aims to provide students with opportunities to carry out
collaborative projects and engage in thematic discussions and educational activities.
The
participants also explored opportunities for future cooperation and outlined
plans for expanding youth-focused initiatives.
The
parties also discussed prospects for future cooperation and plans to develop
youth-oriented projects. Participants of the meeting emphasized the decisive
role of the academic space in forming a culture of critical thinking,
tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
Finally,
it was underscored that encouraging and supporting student initiatives
represents a vital foundation for the country’s democratic development and
long-term stability.
