International Scientific Conference

On July 8-10, 2026, Sokhumi State University (SSU) hosted the International Scientific Conference "Black Sea Blue Development" (ISC BS-2026).

The event was organized by SSU and led by Professor Lali Tabatadze. It was funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia (SRNSFG), which also funded the publication of the conference research papers.

SSU's Professor Lali Tabatadze, Deputy Rector Romeo Galdava, and international committee members welcomed the guests, including Academician Vladimer Tsitsishvili and Professor Ketevan Laperashvili.

A research group from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, led by Professor Georgi Zhelezov, also attended. SSU has worked with this Bulgarian team on Black Sea ecology projects for two years. Researchers Marina Raykova and Yulian Totev attended with support from the SRNSFG.

The conference also drew scientists from universities worldwide, including Italy, Turkey, Poland, the UK, and the USA. The presentations and discussions focused on:

  • The ecology and wildlife of the Black Sea;
  • New, low-waste technologies to reduce sea and coast pollution;
  • Food safety and environmental protection.

The organizers thanked the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation and SSU Rector, Professor Tea Jugeli, for their support.
