Sokhumi
State University deeply mourns the passing of Professor Emeritus Ms. Ema
Kilanava, PhD in Philology and prominent figure in English Philology at the
Faculty of Humanities.
For
more than fifty years, Ms. Kilanava served Georgian education and science with
great honor. Her distinguished teaching, research, professionalism, and civic
devotion inspired both students and colleagues.
As
Head of the Department of English Philology, she contributed significantly to
its development, strengthening the academic environment, and shaping
generations of professionals. Her teaching, scholarship, and kindness leave a
lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of working with her.
She
was an Academician of the Abkhazian National Academy of Sciences and served as
a member of the Academic Council of Sokhumi State University from 2013 to 2017.
Her
decades of dedicated service earned her state honors, including the Certificate
of Honor from the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia (2012)
and the Order of Honor (2013).
The university
extends its deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and
students.
