Sokhumi
State University deeply regrets to announce the passing of the distinguished
Georgian archaeologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Medea
Nioradze.
Professor
Medea Nioradze was an outstanding scholar in the study of Georgian prehistory
and the Paleolithic era, the author of numerous fundamental scientific works,
and an active participant in the Dmanisi archaeological investigations. From
1986, she served as the Head of the Department of Paleolithic Archaeology at
the Archaeological Research Center of the Georgian National Academy of
Sciences. Professor Nioradze worked at the Georgian National Museum and served
for many years as the Secretary of the Archaeological Commission of the
Georgian National Academy of Sciences, chaired by Academician Andria Apakidze.
The
daughter of Professor Giorgi Nioradze—the renowned archaeologist and founder of
academic archaeology in Georgia— Medea Nioradze and honorably carried forward
the traditions of the Georgian school of archaeology.
For
many years, Professor M. Nioradze maintained a close academic collaboration
with Sokhumi State University. She played an active role in advancing the field
of archaeology, contributing to the implementation of undergraduate, master's,
and doctoral programs, and delivering lecture courses across all three academic
cycles. Her professionalism, pedagogical excellence, and dedicated mentorship
laid the foundation for the professional development of numerous young
scholars.
Sokhumi
State University pays tribute to the memory of Professor Medea Nioradze and
extends its sincere condolences to her family, colleagues, students, and the
entire scientific community.
The
scientific and pedagogical legacy of Professor Medea Nioradze will hold an
honored place in the history of Georgian science and Sokhumi State University.
