Jean Monnet Auditorium at Sokhumi State University

On November 22, 2024, the Jean Monnet Auditorium was opened at Sokhumi State University - the Auditorium was opened in a ceremonial setting by the Rector of Sokhumi State University, Professor Zurab Khonelidze, and the Head of the European Studies Center of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) of the Hungarian Private Educational Institute and Research Center, Rodrigo Ballester Esquivias, who later presented to academic staff and students with a public lecture on "Georgia's European Perspective: How does the European Union View its Own Enlargement?"

It should be noted that the "Jean Monnet Auditorium" was organized at the University within the framework of the Jean Monnet Module of the ERASMUS+ program "Corporate Social Responsibility in the European Union: Experience for Georgia" (101083295-CSREU-ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH) (Manager - Professor Larisa Takalandze); The main goal of the Module is the development of European Studies at Sokhumi State University, improving the quality of educational programs in the field of European integration.

At the end of this year, Rodrigo Ballester Esquivias got acquainted with the award received from the European Union Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and the accompanying letter, which states that its purpose is to present the quality and achievements of European integration and to recognize the contribution to the study of European issues (see Appendix 1). Mr. Rodrigo Ballester congratulated the University and wished it further success in the mentioned direction.

                The Opening Ceremony  was attended by Associate Professor Nino Tophuridze, the Head of Administration, representatives of managerial and administrative bodies, students and academic staff of SSU.  

The Jean Monnet program aims to expand knowledge about European integration processes through teaching, research and debate on topics related to the history, politics, economics and law of the European Union, as well as the EU's relations with other regions of the world. The main task of the program is the involvement of the European dimension in the higher education system; It was opened in 1989 and got its name in honor of the famous French statesman Jean Monnet, one of the "architects" of the European Union. Jean Monnet Module Manager, Professor L. Takalandze sincerely thanks the Rector of SSU, Mr. Zurab Khonelidze and the Head of Administration, Mrs. Nino Tophuridze for organizing the opening of the Jean Monnet Auditorium.
