On December 22-25, 2023, the scientific conference " European Choice of Georgia " was held in Stepantsminda township under the organization of the Peace Education Center at Sokhumi State University.

    Participation in European educational-research processes and grant projects is of priority importance for Sokhumi State University. Along with this, our University is the only Georgian Higher Education institution whose Rector was personally invited to the European Parliament in Brussels to present peace initiatives known as "University Diplomacy".

    Ten days ago, Georgia received the status of a candidate for the European Union, which further confirms the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of our country and, at the same time, presents us with certain challenges.

    The Conference was also very busy with interesting reports that touched on a number of important issues in terms of relations between Georgia and the European Union:

    Rector of Sokhumi State University Professor Zurab Khonelidze: " European Choice of Georgia ";

    Professor Malkhaz Kakabadze: "Georgia and the Council of Europe";

    Researcher Vakhtang Chania: "European Family and Georgian Mentality";

    Professor Larisa Takalandze: "European Union for Georgia - New Opportunities";

    Professor Davit Jalaghonia: "Georgia-EU Economic Relations".

    Discussions were held around the presented reports.

    It is worth noting that our Abkhaz compatriots living in the occupied zone took part in the scientific forum remotely, who expressed their desire and readiness to actively participate in peace processes. They supported the initiatives of the Rector of Sokhumi State University in this direction.

    The Conference was attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, Mr. Tamaz Khubua, and the President of the International Non-Governmental Organization "Hera", the World Ambassador of Peace, Mrs. Dalila Khorava.
