Sokhumi
State University hosted a special event featuring Professor Teimuraz
Gvantseladze, who served as a member of the First Convocation of the Supreme
Council of the Republic of Georgia from 1990 to 1991 and was one of the
historic signatories of the Act of Restoration of State Independence of
Georgia.
The
gathering centered on the historic journey toward reclaiming Georgia's
independence, exploring the complex political landscape of 1990–1991 and the
defining moments of that era. Professor Gvantseladze shared firsthand accounts
with the students, outlining the unique circumstances and formidable challenges
that shaped the country's path to independence.
During
his address, the professor highlighted the monumental importance of April 9,
1991, the procedural steps behind passing the Declaration of Independence, the
impact of the national movement, and the immense responsibility taken by
leaders during this pivotal chapter in modern Georgian history. The session
concluded with an open, interactive dialogue, allowing students to engage
directly with the speaker regarding the socio-political climate of the period.
The
event was attended by the Rector of Sokhumi State University, Professor Tea
Jugeli; the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Diplomacy, Professor Vepkhia
Gvaramia; along with university faculty and students.
